When a serial killer manages to catch, everyone believes that they will give him a life sentence, or a period that is guaranteed not to allow him to leave the bar for the rest of his days. Unfortunately, the system sometimes fails. Although this happens quite rarely, some killers spend behind bars only a few years. The lack of evidence or loopholes in the law is to blame, but the ten serial killers listed below were released. It is terrible that this is still happening today. Just last month, it was announced that Jenin Ann Jones, a serial killer who chose newborn babies as victims, is about to be released from prison for good behavior.

10. Nikolay Dzhumagaliev.1

Nikolai Dzhumagaliev - a serial killer and cannibal. He allegedly killed at least 7 women between 1979 and 1980. Jumagaliev is also known as “Metal Fang” because of its metal teeth.The first victim of Dzhumagaliev was a young rural girl. He cut her throat and cut it in length, and then ate it over the next month. Dzhumagaliev killed five more women before he was arrested because he accidentally fired at one of his colleagues.

However, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia and sentenced to a year in a psychiatric hospital. When he was released, he committed three more murders. Dzhumagaliyev was arrested after committing the ninth murder, when he invited several friends to his house, and instead of behaving like a hospitable host, Dzhumagaliyev killed one of his guests and began to dismember him in the next room. When the police arrived, Dzhumagaliyev was covered in blood. The police were so shocked that they missed him, arresting him only the next day. Dzhumagaliyev appeared before the court again, but due to the fact that he already had a diagnosis of schizophrenia, he was sentenced to only eight years in a closed clinic.
9. Mary Bell.2

Mary Bell became infamous when she coolly killed two little boys a few days before her eleventh birthday. The first victim was a four-year-old boy named Martin Brown.Bell allegedly committed the murder on her own; she strangled a little boy in an abandoned house. The second victim was a three-year-old boy named Brian Howe. Mary strangled this boy too, but this time her thirteen-year-old girlfriend Norma Joyce Bell helped her. In this murder, the couple went on. They cut out the letter N on the boy's chest, which they later changed to M, cut off his hair and mutilated his genitals. As soon as the couple were caught, Norma was acquitted of all charges, while Mary was convicted of manslaughter. Mary spent twelve years in prison and was released early at the age of 23. She now has a daughter and grandson.
8. Carla Homolka.3

Karla Homolka is a Canadian serial killer who committed violent acts and then killed at least three women with her husband Paul Bernardo. The first victim of the couple was the younger sister of Carla Tammy. Paul became obsessed with Tammy, and Carla decided that her own sister would be the best gift for her future husband. Karla planned to give her a drink and would allow Paul to rape her while she was unconscious. Sadly, things didn't go according to plan.In December 1990, Tammy choked on her own vomiting and died after Carla introduced her tranquilizer to animals. Carla and Paul have committed similar murders at least two more times. When they were finally caught, Carla managed to convince the accusers that she was under the influence of her husband and get a smaller prison sentence (twelve years), while Paul received a life sentence. Later, videos of the crimes of the couple were published, which show that Carla participated in everything completely voluntarily. She was released on July 4, 2005. Now her name is Lynn Till, and she lives on Guadalupe with a new husband and three children.
7. Pedro Lopez.4

Pedro Lopez, also known as the "Monster of the Andes", allegedly killed more than three hundred young girls in South America. In his youth, Lopez went to prison for stealing cars. After his release, he began to hunt young girls. In 1978, as Lopez himself later claimed, he killed more than 100 girls. All the murders he committed in Colombia. After that, he moved to Ecuador, where he began killing about three girls a week. Lopez was arrested after a failed kidnapping and confessed to more than three hundred murders.However, the police did not believe in its history until the flood opened a mass grave containing many of its victims. He was arrested in 1980 by the Government of Ecuador, but he was released only eighteen years later. Just an hour later, he was arrested by the Colombian government, which released him three years later.
6. Louis Van Schoor.5

Louis Van Shur, a security guard and ex-cop, allegedly killed more than 39 people in several years. He was an ordinary police officer whose task was to track alarms and go into place. Van Schur explained the large number of robbers he killed by the fact that he was only doing his job. Most of his victims were black men, which led experts to conclude that the killings had something to do with racial hatred, although Van Schur adamantly denied it. Ultimately, an internal audit concluded that Van Shur was doing a little more than just doing his job, and he was arrested on charges of murder. He was charged with seven murders and two attempted murders, and was sentenced to 20 years in prison.However, Van Shur was released on parole after serving only twelve years.
5. Bartolomeo Galliano.6

Although Galliano is currently serving a term, he is an important addition to this list because he managed to avoid imprisonment a total of six times. In 1981, Galliano was sent to a psychiatric hospital for criminals because he had stoned a prostitute to death with stones and severely beat another. However, Galliano managed to escape and in 1989 he committed two more murders. When he was caught, he was again sent to a psychiatric hospital. For good behavior, Galliano was granted a two-day vacation to see his sick mother. When Galliano did not return in two weeks, he was announced in the national search. Ultimately, the killer was found, but before that he managed to shoot a new girlfriend in the head.
4. Issei Sagawa.7

While Issey Sagawa may not have been a serial killer, the terrifying way in which he killed his first and only victim definitely gives him a place on this list. Throughout his life, Sagawa felt that he was weak and ugly. But instead of trying to cultivate self-confidence, Sagawa decided to kill and eat one of his classmates who supported him.On the night of June 11, 1981, Sagawa invited René Hartevelt to his apartment for lunch, saying that he needed help translating German poetry. When she arrived, Sagawa shot her in the neck with a rifle. He ate her for the next two days, claiming he wanted to "absorb her energy." Sagawa was caught attempting to dump the remains of Hartevelt’s body into the river and was sentenced to a psychiatric hospital. However, Sagawa became a sort of celebrity after his assassination, and as a result, the French authorities decided to transfer him to Japan. As soon as he arrived there, he was sent to Matsuzawa hospital, where he was declared normal and released. Since then he is a free man.
3. Juha Valyakkala.8

July 2, 1988 Juha Valikakala stole a bicycle. For many, bicycle theft is not too serious a crime if you didn’t have Valiha. When the bike owner, Sten Nielson and his son Fredrik, saw Valiákkala stealing their bike, they chased after him and eventually cornered at a nearby cemetery. Instead of just giving up the bike, Valiuccala started shooting and killed his father and son. To aggravate the situation, Valikakala returned and killed Nilsson's wife. He was later arrested, declared a psychopath and sentenced to life imprisonment.However, while serving the term, Valiákkala managed to escape as much as four times. After the fourth successful escape, the Finnish authorities released him after serving virtually 19 years of his life sentence. After his release, Valiákkala stole a car and was sent back to prison, from where he was soon released on parole.
2. Arnfinn Nesset.9

Arnfinn Nesset is a former Norwegian nurse, manager of a private sanatorium and a convicted serial killer. He allegedly killed up to 138 people, but was accused only of killing 22 of his former patients. In 1981, in a private sanatorium, where Nesset worked at the time, suspicious fatal incidents began to occur. When the police questioned Nesset, he confessed to killing 27 patients. He claimed that he killed them by injecting them with a muscle relaxant drug. He was eventually convicted of poisoning 22 patients and sentenced to 21 years in prison (the maximum sentence in Norway at the time). However, Nesset was released after twelve years for good behavior and was monitored for another ten years. Today his name and place of residence is unknown.
1. Jenin Ann Jones.10

Jenin Ann Jones is a former pediatric nurse who allegedly killed up to 46 babies, although by some estimates this number can reach 60. Jones committed murders by injecting digoxin, heparin and later succinylcholine to babies to trigger an attack. Jones' intention was to look like a hero after saving a baby, but many babies did not survive her injections. For the first time, suspicion fell on Jones when she worked at the hospital of Beksar County, where many children with whom she worked died. Instead of initiating an investigation, the hospital management simply asked the nurse to quit. After that, she took a job at a clinic in Kerrville, Texas. She again came under suspicion, but this time she was accused of poisoning six children. Jones was sentenced to 99 years in prison for killing 15-month-old Chelsea McClellan. However, Jones is going to be released February 24, 2018 for good behavior. She will serve only 35 years from her 99-year term.
