30 years ago in the United States bombed residential area.
The MOVE organization, founded in 1972, belonged to the “radical greens”, called for abandoning the achievements of civilization and returning to hunting and gathering.
The members of the movement set up the life of the commune in accordance with the principles proclaimed. Neighbors complained about the presence in the common yard of a compost pit in which garbage and waste were dumped.
The first clash with the authorities occurred in 1978, when they were tried to be evicted by a court decision. During the operation, a police officer was killed. Nine members of "MOVE" were sentenced to 100 years in prison each.
The organization moved, but they also had problems at the new place.
On May 13, 1985, the city authorities launched an operation to evict the organization and arrest its members. The charges that were brought: violation of the condition of parole, illegal possession of weapons, terrorism, contempt of court.
An attempt to liberate the building led to an exchange of fire, after which the police leadership decided to bomb the headquarters. Two half-kilogram bombs provided by the FBI were dropped on the building.As a result of the fire, 11 people died (including five children).
In 1986, a commission of inquiry condemned the actions of the city authorities, in 1996 a federal court ordered Philadelphia to pay $ 1.5 million to relatives of the victims.
