5th Generation Chinese Fighter - J-X

Continuing the theme "Russian stealth fighter of the 5th generation PAK FA" Pakfayer ""

China began testing its own fifth-generation fighter, known as the J-14, J-20, J-XX, J-X and XXJ, according to the China Defense blog, which also published several photos of the new aircraft. A Chinese fighter was spotted by photographers while running a high-speed run on the runway.

Judging by the photos, the Chinese aircraft is a mixture of fifth-generation American and Russian fighters. In particular, as Defense Update writes, the nose of the fighter (pilot's canopy, nose, air intakes) repeats in its form that of the Lockheed Martin F-22 Raptor fighter. At the same time, the tail section (horizontal tail, keels, location of engine nozzles) resembles the tail section of the T-50 fighter (PAK FA).

The glider of the Chinese fighter is made according to the normal erodynamic scheme with a high-lying triangular wing in conjunction with the fuselage. The keels, possibly all-turning, have a large camber angle from the longitudinal axis.Motor nacelles are located on the sides of the fuselage under the wings. The general outline of the aircraft suggests that it was designed using the technology of geometric stealth.

In this case, data on radio-absorbing materials used in the creation of J-20, has not yet been made public. It is also not known which engines are used in the first prototype of the fifth-generation Chinese fighter. Previously, Jane's agency reported that, according to unconfirmed reports, the Russian AL-41F1S engines ("Item 117C"), mounted on Su-35S aircraft, were installed on the plane.

According to other sources, China could install WS-15 power plants of its own production on the J-20. However, as military expert Bill Sweetman, editor of Aviation Week weekly, notes in his blog, these engines are still not very reliable so that they can be used on a prototype of a Chinese fighter. Other details about the technologies used in the new aircraft also remain secret.
Meanwhile, Sweetman believes that photographs of a promising Chinese fighter leaked to the Internet are most likely fake, although it does not exclude the possibility that these are originals. In the event that the images reflect a real-life aircraft, it can be concluded that China has made a serious breakthrough on the way to the creation of a fifth-generation fighter. Previously, this country was mainly engaged in the licensed assembly of Russian and Western aircraft, as well as the illegal copying of fighters.

It should be noted that China has its own classification of combat aircraft, according to which the American F-22, Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II and the Russian PAK FA belong to the fourth-generation combat aircraft. Official confirmation from the Chinese authorities about the creation and the beginning of tests of their own new fighter has not yet been received. For the same reason, it is not known which generation by its own classification China assigns the J-20 to.

At the end of May 2010, a representative of the National Center for Air and Space Intelligence (NASIC) USA Wayne Ulman, speaking in Congress, said that China is creating its own fighter, which can make a significant competition to the F-22. According to him, the Chinese aircraft can enter service as early as 2018. According to the US Department of Defense, China will not have a fifth-generation fighter at least until 2020, and by 2025 the country will adopt "only a few" of such aircraft.

The exact name of the Chinese fighter is unknown. The indices J-X, J-XX and XXJ were attributed to the aircraft by Western intelligence agencies. The creation of the fighter, which in the Chinese forums is referred to as J-14 and J-20, is handled by Chengdu Aircraft Corporation and Shenyang Aircraft Corporation. Earlier it was reported that these companies expect to complete the development of the fighter by 2017-2019. It should be noted that China rarely and reluctantly discloses information about its own military developments.

--------------

Development of a promising fighter J-X (designation XXJ assigned to this project by the US Air Force Intelligence Directorate) began in the mid-nineties, commissioned by the Chinese State Aviation Corporation AVIC I.

It is assumed that the aircraft will go into service simultaneously with the PAK FA in 2015.
The works of the company "Shengfei" in collaboration with the 601th Scientific Research Institute and Chengfei (CAC) with the 611th Scientific Research Institute.
“Chengfei” offers a machine based on the J-10 layout, but equipped with two WS15 engines with a maximum load of 11770 kgf and a boost at 19350 kgf.

In turn, "Shengfei" to the American prototype. The internal compartment of the weapon and, accordingly, increased midsection, emphasis on low visibility, as well as the design of the car have in common with the F-22.

In general, technical solutions used in the project are similar to Raptor:
- high maneuverability
- controlled vector thrust,
- stealth,
- perhaps - supersonic cruising speed.

On the J-X aircraft it is also planned to use two TRDDF WS10A, which have been under development for 10 years. According to 2003 sources, these engines were tested on the Su-27SK fighter. Moreover, WS10A engines will also be installed on the upgraded J-10.
In 2002, Chinese television showed President Jiang Zemin examining this project. According to the concept being developed, nozzles can deflect thrust vector up to 15 degrees in any direction.
It must be assumed that the J-X theme will go parallel to the Russian PAK FA, the use of the export variant AL-41F1A and the promising radar with AFAR is not excluded.

It is also possible to build a “light” fighter in the MiG-29 class, equipped with two engines based on the RD-33.
It should be noted that, to date, Chinese projects in the military field are more likely to be similar, rather than actually correspond to the Russian and American capabilities.
But the progress in the technology and technology of the PRC is obvious, and it is necessary to think that if J-X most likely does not reach the level of the fifth-generation fighter, it will be very close to it.
