Blessed are the merciful, or by doing good to your neighbor, you help yourself
During the Sermon on the Mount, Christ pronounced the 10 commandments, which indicate the ways to reach the Kingdom of Heaven. The fifth is: blessed are the merciful, for they will be pardoned. On the essence of mercy, physical and spiritual alms tells Archpriest Alexander Knyazyuk.
Parable of the Good Samaritan
Imagine that people's destinies are strings. And mercy, charity, mercy form a fine fabric from these strings. Human relations, if they are filled with tenderness, love, compassion, bring people together.
Recall the parable of the gospel of the good Samaritan. After all, there is called the neighbor is the person to whom you have done a good deed. The neighbor is the one to whom I helped, showed mercy and mercy. Free of charge. Not for the glory of man, but for the glory of God. Here is secretly for human eyes, and there it is open to God and His angels, because the Lord knows us like no other. After all, even we do not know ourselves as well as He.
It sometimes happens that a person finds himself surrounded by difficult circumstances, finds himself in a protracted depression, cannot overcome loneliness ... In that case, no matter how paradoxical it may sound, you need ... to start doing good deeds to all who need it. When a person begins to perform virtues in relation to others, relatives and close people will appear in his life. In this case, there is no point in talking about loneliness.
When it is hard for you, help your neighbor, and in your life there will be another person, close and dear to you. Of course, some kind of evil deeds, sinful acts in relation to neighbors are always destructive. It is impossible to build strong relationships on sin, because it destroys them.
Mercy and mercy always connect people. The second part of the commandment of bliss says that those who are merciful will be pardoned. He was pardoned not only in the face of God at the Last Judgment, but here too, on behalf of the people who they once met on the path of life. After all, it often happens that we fall into some sins, make mistakes, unwillingly.
And how joyfully, calmly, solemnly happens on the soul, when someone forgave us for this, did not respond evil for evil. As the Lord says: He who is forgiven much is the one who loves much. How joyful and solemn in mind when you become a partaker of the triumphant Love of God in human hearts.
It is necessary to give joy to other people, to forgive even their terrible actions towards us, to try, looking at God's mercy, to erase in your heart the resentment and evil on a person who hid in our soul because of some of his actions.
Blessed are the merciful ... and the unfeigned
But what should be our grace? Why should we do it? Of course, it is not hypocritical and gratuitous, and not for the glory of man, but for the glory of God.
Often a person, when he wants to give alms to his neighbor, begins to collect some objects and, unfortunately, always chooses some not important for him. Imagine a large closet with things. Man begins to choose something from these old things. As it turns out, even from a mountain of trash, he leaves himself something for a rainy day, something - for today, and the most unnecessary, which he once wanted to throw away, he will “give”. Here the proverb is pertinent: "It is not on you that we are not fit."
But alms must be such that a person gives a part of what is hard for him to give. But give it sincerely. After all, with what disposition of the heart you give, so is your sacrifice.
Alms is twofold:
Body - helping a person, visiting the hospital, drinking the hungry, giving water to the thirsty. This is when we sheltered a wanderer, dressed a person who did not have clothes, provided material assistance.
Spiritual is a consolation for the grieving, care, above all, about the soul of man. When we do not pay a bottle of vodka to an employee who has helped us with the housework and thereby multiplies his passion (as if giving him material gratitude for his work).
First of all, we should take care of the soul. This is what spiritual alms will be when we conduct moral conversations with our neighbors, saving their souls from temptations and passions, when we give good advice to our friends, acquaintances, everyone in need and those who ask, in order to save the heart of our neighbor from evil.
The fifth commandment of bliss once again indicates how God relates to man and how we should deal with our neighbors. If you feel bad, do good to someone who is worse. Then two people in this life will be much better. Just do not try to do it for the sake of the human eye. Those who do good deeds with joy, sincerely and secretly will be pardoned.
