Created by separate - called for unity

300

In marriage, a man is a man and a woman. We see that at first the Lord created man and woman, and in the commandments of marriage he said: “... and they will be one flesh” (Genesis 2:24). That is, according to the Creator's idea, created by a separate man and woman, being realized in marriage, they are again united to be a man.

Man and woman - here is a man. While the woman is not even named. Adam and his wife. Moreover, the wife is also Adam. There is no Eva. In the paradise compound there are no two separate, they are two together. This, by the way, means the phrase that the wife was created from the rib of Adam. A rib is an image of intimacy, an image of the heart. Created from Adam's rib - it means created from a single substance with it. There is no humiliation for a woman. It is simply said that it was created second in a row, but equal to Adam in its true worth.

The appearance of the wife is described as what it was necessary for man to create a helper corresponding to him, that is, mutual responsibility, jointly responsible before God, but Adam did not find such among animals. And God made him a different person. A man without a man can not.And if a man is called a religious, Divine animal, then Aristotle is right, who called man a social animal.

By the way, there is a controversy with the ancient pagan myth about androgyne, about the hermaphrodite, which was divided into genders for the Fall. The Bible does not consider the division into floors as a fall into sin. Nothing like this. The man in God's purpose was already different, including by gender different. And marriage is a way of connecting different sexes to multiply love and to unite in God. After all, it was not for nothing that the Fathers of the Church said that Adam and his wife can be considered not only as the first people, a man and a woman, but as two sides of a single person: the mental, rational and sensitive, heart side.
