How to sew curtains in the kitchen with their own hands

The choice of fabric

The trading network offers a sufficient number of curtains for the kitchen, which are sewn from organza or tulle, as well as other materials.
Naturally, in themselves they carry a practical solution, since they are easily erased, and after drying they do not require ironing. Nevertheless, it is better to sew curtains for the kitchen with your own hands and only from natural fabrics such as cotton and linen.

Calculate the amount of fabric

Girl with a centimeterIf you dare to sew curtains for the kitchen with your own hands, then you will need to correctly make preliminary measurements:

  • measure the distance from the eaves to the lowest point of the expected length of the future product;
  • the length of the curtain may be up to the window sill or so that it covers the radiator located under the window;
  • to the resulting length, you need to add to the gate from the bottom, and this is an additional 6 cm. and another 3 cm above, which will be used to bend the curtains on top. This will be the total length of the curtains, which will be required for their manufacture;
  • having measured the length of the cornice, multiply it by a factor of 1.5 and add 4 cm to the figure, which will be required for bending the fabric from the sides.

Having made a number of simple measurements, we obtain the necessary width of fabric for the future curtains with standard drape. Wanting to make the drapery more expressive, the resulting length of the cornice must be multiplied by 2.

Cutting

Pattern under the curtainsPattern under the curtains in the simplest version is one or two rectangular pieces of matter. If you are planning to work with cotton or blended fabrics, then immediately before the cutting procedure, they should be moistened and slightly ironed to prevent the likelihood of shrinkage of the finished product.

For an even detailing of the parts, you do not need a master class shot in the video.
It is enough on the one hand, along the edge, to measure the necessary amount, which will be the width of the future product with gaps, and pull one or two threads along the width of the piece of matter, which will serve as reference points on the cutting line. Using the same chalk chalk can distort it. Thus, it is necessary to create a line for a turn. In the end, we get the part with the perfect markup.

Sewing

Girl sewsTo sew perfect curtains with your own hands, you will need to put a long line on the sewing machine in the range of 4 to 6 mm. Work will begin with processing the top edge. For this, it is necessary to bend the seam allowance from above and sticking over the curtain ribbon.

Then you need to tuck and handle the side sections of the future product. During this process, the inside of the seam will need to remove the edges of the curtain tape and make sure that the ends of the cords remain accessible. In the end, pulling these cords can be done to curtain the curtain to the desired width.

The next step will consist of hemming the bottom of the curtains. It remains only to carefully fasten all the threads, hide their tips and iron the finished curtain.

The finished curtains are not only very easy to sew, but also easy to hang. To do this, use hooks or any other fasteners.

The importance of style

The kitchen does not tolerate whimsical and complex design solutions, however, no one says that the final version here should be cheap and poor. It is necessary to arrange such premises, observing their style and supporting it with a fabric pattern or shade, while the patterns themselves should be made in the form of ordinary rectangles.

In support of favorites

Japanese style curtainsAn equally important issue accompanying sewing curtains, will be compliance with a particular style. If your kitchen is created in country style, then, naturally, the future product must be sewn in the same way. In particular, you can use fabrics in a cage or with ornaments that resemble or are close to rustic motifs.

If this room is designed in the Japanese style, it is necessary to observe the association with Japanese characters, for example, hieroglyphs. The high-tech style will require exceptionally monochromatic curtains, which can be beige or white, as well as any light shades.

Turn on your imagination and create such a masterpiece that would fully correspond to the general concept of the room and at the same time cause undisguised delight with the deserved pride of the hostess.

Sewing curtains step by step

For more sophisticated housewives who are ready to sew curtains for the kitchen, we offer a master class. Not one, but even two, where the technique of creating curtains in the Venetian style and on eyelets is considered.

Curtains in the Venetian style

MuslinThis master class is designed to create a curtain with a window size of 1.5 x 1.2 meters.It will also require the following materials from you:

  • natural muslin cream or white (or you need) flowers the size of 2.5 to 3 m;
  • printed satin with a colorful floral pattern, which will be 80 cm high and 1.5 m wide;
  • a satin pink ribbon whose length is 20 m and a width of 5 cm.

We cut one strip of 3 m by 17 cm from the printed satin and 4 strips of 2.4 m by 13 cm, and cut the satin ribbon into 8 strips of 2.5 meters each.

From the curtain we pull out two threads, which will mark the lines for attaching strips of printed satin:

  • we take out the first thread directly along the top edge;
  • the second thread is indented from the top edge of 17 cm.

Curtain threadCreating curtains for the kitchen, we note the guides for the side vertical stripes. To do this, you need to pull out four threads at the edges of the cloth at a distance of 13 cm on each side of the edge. Then the master class shows how, by pulling the threads, mark the location of satin vertical stripes inside the curtain itself. Denote the location of the vertical satin stripes inside the curtain by pulling the threads.

We tuck both sides of each of the strips of the printed satin exactly 1 cm. Then we fold them in half with the wrong side up and iron, as in the photo.

We take two vertical strips of printed satin 2.4 mx 13 cm in size. We connect them to the lateral edges of the curtain fabric with the front sides and fasten them with pins. As you can see, creating curtains with your own hands is not at all difficult. Now the created structure must be stitched on a sewing machine, and then unscrew the front side and iron.

In order to sew Venetian curtains, it is necessary between the curtain and two vertical stripes of printed satin, after 5 cm from the top edge, two satin and covered with a vertical stripe of printed satin ribbon are placed. The whole structure is fastened with pins according to the landmarks - elongated threads.

HackingThen do the upper edges of satin ribbons with your own hands. The strips from printed atlas of 3 mx 17 cm in size are stitched for 1 cm and are attached, according to marks, also to vertical strips. As a result, at this step, a horizontal strip is trimmed along the edges, and then with a 5 cm indent. Adhering to the "marking lines", we sew vertical stripes. Next, the lower edge of the curtain is stitched, after which it is steamed with an iron.

For the kitchen to sew curtains with your own hands does not constitute a special difficulty. The main thing to look in the network is the necessary master class, which is well illustrated with photos that help to understand the essence of the process.
So, at this step it is necessary to tighten the satin ribbons for wrinkling. We tie the ends of these ribbons with bows, and through the upper strip consisting of printed satin, we pass the barbell, carefully distributing the curtain over its entire length, observing the uniform formation of folds.

Actually, thus, having studied the master class, you can do it yourself, relying on accenting photos, to sew excellent curtains.

Eyelet Curtains

Eyelet CurtainsWe are not in vain offering this option. Its highlight are undulating smooth vertical folds on the curtains. In this case, the work will need the following materials:

  • fabric for curtains (consumption is calculated as follows: the length of the cornice is multiplied by 2.5);
  • fabric for finishing cuff;
  • cringing tape;
  • Grommets (even number only).

By pulling the thread, cut off the excess and process the side seams accordingly.

Determine the width of the finishing cuff 25 cm.In the middle, with the help of sewing chalk, mark the line and attach a cringing tape to it.

Using the iron method of ironing glue tape. Then, on the glued side of the grommet, bend the cuff and press as well.

While sticking to the edge of the curtains, as shown in the photo, press the seam allowance onto the grommet, and the second onto the front side of the finishing cuff.

After using your hands to gash the ends of the cuff curtains, turn it on the front side.

Thread pullingPlace the curtain in the cuff and lay in its middle in such a way 2 cm so that the glued side, on its front part, is on top, as shown in the photo. Bottom should be rolled in 1 mm. Now all you need to sew, or rather, stitch and iron the cuff.

Chalk lineHaving retreated 4 cm from the upper edge of the cuff, the locations of the grommets are outlined by applying and stroking their inner diameter. An example is shown in the photo.

Steam ironingThe grommets are installed very simply - by snapping-in from pressure. As you can see, in this case we sew, but create a masterpiece with our own hands.

Sewing lineIt remains to assemble the curtain in an accordion, thread the rod of the cornice, hang it and again beautifully distribute the drapery across the entire width of the product.

Fabric cuttingTo create curtains for the kitchen with your own hands, you need to be able to do a few lines with a sewing machine and choose the desired master class, which the whole process will describe in as much detail as possible and illustrate with the necessary photos, or use your imagination to the fullest extent.Insert ring
