When and how to plant Gubastik (Mimulyus) in the garden plot

When and how to plant Gubastik (Mimulyus) in the garden?

Four steps to mimulyus

We sow gubastika

Gubastik flowerSowing seeds of mimulus is best done between May and June. However, if it is planned to grow a plant for commercial purposes, then the optimal period will be July-August.A sponge or mimulus has extremely small seeds. One gram of their seeds contains from 22,000 to 30,000 pieces. To make sowing more convenient, they are sold in flower shops in the form of granules or sawn.

In order to grow beautiful flowers, the mimulus is sown in a loose, free of fungal infection, soil or substrate with a low salt content and an acidity level in the range of 5.5-5.8 pH.
Cassettes for seedlings

After sowing in open ground, both ordinary and granulated seeds, they are either left in this form or sprinkled with slightly vermiculite. Sowing of seeds is recommended to be carried out in special seed boxes, which are preferably covered with glass, and the cassettes themselves, respectively, with a covering material. The technologically correct process of sowing seeds advises sowing the mimulus in the so-called seed cassettes, in each cell from one to three pieces.

For those who are not familiar with seedling cassettes, we suggest looking at the photo above.

Observe the growth

Growing mimulyus in cassettesSowed granulated seeds require a soil for growth, the temperature of which is in the range of 18 to 23 C. A moistened soil is also obligatory. Under these conditions, the first shoots of the mimulus can be observed in a period of two to seven days. After the cotyledons, cassettes, or sowing seeds unfold, it is necessary to move to a cooler place where the ambient temperature is between 15 and 18 C. It is also necessary to reduce the intensity of irrigation. It is during this period that the cultivation of mimulus becomes the most responsible. In other words, the soil should remain constantly wet, but not so much that the loose plants die from rotting or “black leg”.

We follow the optimal growth conditions

Flower hybrid gubastikaAs soon as the sown seeds show a real first leaf, they should be fed with potassium and nitrogen in the ratio 14: 0: 7 or K: P: N.As for dosages, they should be as follows: 0.0005% - 0.00075%, or from 50 to 70 ppm. The use of ammonium forms of nitrogen is not recommended. After the appearance of the second or third leaf, the dose of fertilizing should be increased to 0.001 or 0.015%, or from 100 to 150 ppm. In turn, the temperature of the soil should not exceed 16 C. If the temperature is too high, the mimulus will begin to stretch.

Care after transplant

Transplant mimulyusa in potsIn the dominant number of cases, plants of succulent mimulus affect slugs and snails. An invasion will be inevitable in case of excessive wetting. Among the diseases of mimulus, powdery mildew is also frequent. In order to protect the plant, which was so stubbornly grown from seeds, from possible pests, it is necessary to take appropriate protective measures. However, the plant is quite stable and practically does not get sick.

When the roots appear from the bottom hole of the seed cassettes, then the mimulus is ready for transplanting into larger cassettes for seedlings: from 7 to 9 cm, or ten centimeter pots.
Having shown patience before such an event, you understand that cultivation has yielded results.Dive mimulyus allowed only when the plant will acquire at least two leaves. Further cultivation will consist of the fact that the soil is watered much less. This is especially true of the beginning of the flowering period.
Flowering mimulyusa

Flowering mimulyusa

After transplanting into more spacious pots, fertilizing with potassium and nitrogen should not stop. The ratio will be in this period 1: 1: 5, dosage of 0.002% or 200 ppm. If the soil is supersaturated with nitrogen, the stem will be stretched by the plant if high temperatures prevail. In order to increase the abundance of flowering, it is necessary to feed the mimulus with magnesium sulfate from one to two times in a dosage of 0.025%. In order to enjoy the plant for a long time, as shown in the photo, it is better to use the seeds of hybrids, which need a long day for flowering. In this case, the mimulus will perfectly lay the buds at twelve or fourteen hours.

If you dream of a compact plant, experienced gardeners recommend growing mimulyus with a lot of light, but planting the seedlings in the summer.
